1. Woodland Trail

Inks Lake State Park is home to this rugged backcountry trail that takes you through oak woodlands, over rocky outcrops, and provides scenic views. Much of this hike is unshaded — bring plenty of water for the whole gang. Parking is available along Park Road 4 or park at the trailhead parking lot near Park HQ and hike the Lake Trail to connect with the Woodland Trail.

3. Rimrock Trail

Balcones Canyonlands is a national wildlife refuge located in the Texas Hill Country and is a must-add to your fall itinerary. If you want to get your heart pumping, the most strenuous refuge trail is Rimrock Trail. It is a vigorous hike taking you to the top of the plateau, where you will find spectacular panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country. From the Rimrock Trail, you can access the Shin Oak Trail and the Indiangrass Trail. This park is not dog friendly, so pleaser leave fido at home!

4. Summit Trail

Arguably the most famous state park in Texas, Enchanted Rock State Park is a must-see. We recommend the Summit Trail to be completed at least once, as it takes you up to the top of the enchanted rock. There are plenty of other hiking trails in the park that don't have quite as much incline, such as Loop Trail and Scenic Trail. Access to trails is limited if you have dogs with you, so plan accordingly.
